Supported documents and countries

Zoi ID accepts official ID documents from every country. Chip documents are verified by their chip, digital IDs by the issuer's signature, and every other document by a trained expert.

Documents with a chip

Passports, ID cards and residence permits that follow the international standard for chip documents (ICAO 9303). About 150 countries issue them.

  • Your phone needs NFC to read the chip.
  • We check the government signature on the chip data against certificates published by the issuing countries.
  • Where the chip supports it, we also check that it is the original chip and not a copy.
  • The photo of the data page must match the data on the chip.
  • If we do not know the certificate of the issuing country yet, a trained person reviews the case.

Digital ID wallets

Government-issued digital credentials shared from the user's wallet, such as mobile driving licences and national digital IDs.

  • The issuer's signature is checked, so the data cannot be edited.
  • A short selfie video still confirms the person.
  • Enabled per issuer, on request.

All other documents

The user sends a photo of the front, and of the back where the country allows it. A trained expert checks the document and confirms the details.

  • Passports without a chip
  • National ID cards
  • Residence permits
  • Travel documents for refugees and stateless people
  • Driving licences
  • Other official ID documents

Proof of address documents

Accepted by default. Your policy can narrow the list or add more types.

  • Utility bills: electricity, water, gas, internet, landline
  • Mobile phone bills
  • Bank or card statements and bank letters
  • Tax assessments and tax office letters
  • Letters from a public authority
  • Official residence certificates

Policies can also accept insurance documents and rental agreements.

Addresses taken from the ID

No extra step when the identity document already carries the address: digital ID wallets with a resident address, chip documents that hold it, and ID cards that print it, such as those of Indonesia, Thailand, Viet Nam, the Philippines, Korea and Japan.

  • Documents may be up to 90 days old by default. You can set 1 to 366 days.
  • PDF, JPEG or PNG, up to 10 MB per file.
  • With signed evidence only, just digital IDs, chip addresses and signed PDFs from trusted signers count.
  • The name on the document is compared with the verified person.

Source of funds and wealth evidence

All types are accepted by default. You choose which count, and whether documents are optional or required.

  • Payslips
  • Employment contracts and salary letters
  • Tax returns and tax assessments
  • Bank statements
  • Brokerage, fund or deposit statements
  • Exchange or custody statements
  • Sale documents for property, vehicles, company shares or other assets
  • Wills, probate, estate or notary letters
  • Company accounts, dividend or profit statements
  • Pension statements
  • Other supporting documents
  • Payslips, statements and letters may be up to 180 days old by default, configurable from 1 to 1,095 days. Tax returns get one more year.
  • Sale, inheritance and company documents have no age limit, because they prove a past event.
  • Up to 5 documents per case: PDF, JPEG or PNG, up to 10 MB each.
  • Zoi ID checks that the evidence is genuine and consistent. The decision on the customer stays with your compliance team.

Local rules, built in

Some countries limit which ID numbers may be collected. Zoi ID follows those rules for you.

  • Korean ID cards, residence cards and driving licences: cover the last 7 digits of the resident registration number before you take the photo. We also blur them on our side and check that they cannot be read.
  • Japanese My Number card: we accept the front only. Photos of the back are refused.
  • Indian Aadhaar cards are not collected. Users verify with a PAN card, voter ID, driving licence or passport instead.
  • For every document, optional personal number fields are left out of the data we store.

Who can verify

  • You must be at least 18, or older where the law of your country of residence sets a higher age.
  • Nobody is refused because of their nationality alone.
  • People who live in a country or region under full sanctions cannot be verified. People from those places who live elsewhere are reviewed by a person.
